About The National Heritage Institute
We are a country rich in heritage, filled with monuments that tell the stories of our past. Many of these treasures belong to the state, and it is our privilege to care for them. We share their stories with you and open their doors, ensuring they thrive and evolve in this millennium.
Our work extends beyond preservation—we study these monuments and support everyone dedicated to their care. From every restored chapel, timbered house, castle, brewery, or unique bridge, we take great pride. And it is this pride that inspires us to introduce these treasures to you.
The National Heritage Institute is the largest contributory organization of the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic. Current laws, especially the State conservation of monuments law, entrust it with a number of professional tasks related to state heritage care.
Science and research are an integral part of heritage conservation. They form the foundation for the qualified selection and legal protection of monuments, as well as specialized care for them.
We believe that heritage conservation is meaningful, which is why we strive to inspire children, adults, and seniors and awaken their passion for monuments and cultural heritage. Discovering the value of these landmarks and fostering a lasting connection with them is the main goal of our courses, educational programs, workshops, and other educational events designed for schools and individuals.
The National Heritage Institute manages several of its own projects, organizes engaging events for both the public and experts, and also participates in activities of other organizations.
